We've had such a great summer season that has seen so many amazing acts come by and play full sized shows throughout this sunny (and at times, stormy) weather, and now bringing the season to an end are the wonderful Tony Daunt & The Dauntless with Hoop.
We've been dying to have them return since they performed at our Christmas party, so we're delighted to invite the alt-country/americana dream that is Tony Daunt & The Dauntless back on our stage once again.
Fronted by Tony Daunt (Swampland and Bernie Griffen & The Grifters and The Blue Roses), Tony daunt & The Dauntless have just released their debut album, The Gypsy, which contains such poignant and raw original material that it literally feels like it's tearing out your heart with honesty and grit, but somehow you find yourself smiling and tapping your foot throughout.
They'll be joined by Auckland-based country/folk-pop 4-piece, Hoop for their EP release show. Made up of members of The Wonderfish Collective, Marmaduke, The Comfy Chairs and Big Fuzz, we can't wait to hear them live!
Among the 30 or so tattoos that decorate Tony Daunt is a colourful rendition of a Gretsch Guitars hollow body electric model, mostly covered by the short-sleeved shirt on his upper left arm. A whimsical piece of art in its origin perhaps, given that he’s played bass for most of his musician life, these days it has a close match in the beautiful pearl jet Gretsch Country Classic he wields as lead singer and frontman of Tony Daunt & The Dauntless. Richard Thorne talked with him ahead of the release of his own debut album ‘The Gypsy’, the culmination of a life-long, and hard-won dream.
We are very... and we mean VERY pleased to announce the upcoming release of 'Gypsy', the debut album from Tony Daunt & The Dauntless this coming Feb the 10th!
Just in time for Valentines!!! Yes we went there, but you've got to be prepared.. IT'S ONLY 5 WEEKS AWAY!!! And it's perfect.
Playing at this wild Christmas knees-up is one of our favourites, Tony Daunt, returning this time with his full band Tony Daunt & The Dauntless!
They've had a great year wowing audiences with their gritty and swampy goodness, so we are overjoyed to have them on the bill for the last showcase of this season.
In the meantime, here's a music video from Tony's earlier band, Swampland, as we leave Tony Daunt & The Dauntless a total surprise for those who haven't been lucky enough to see them in the flesh (until this Sunday, that is).
